History

Established in 2003, the LLM faculty has developed into one of the specific LLM faculties in Financial and Economic Law in Taiwan. Since the year of 2005, the LLM faculty has also started to offer a new graduate program for students with non-law majors.

Feature

The LLM Faculty is under the College of Business and the first graduate institute offering advanced law degrees in financial and economic law in Central Taiwan. As a thriving, vibrant post-graduate faculty, there are currently 8 full-time faculty members and approximately 45 students. Our teaching standards and research quality is outstanding and renowned. The LLM faculty enjoys a well-reputed name as a strong research team and all faculty members are active researchers in their own areas of expertise.

In order to integrate law, economics and technology effectively, the LLM faculty owns abundant legal collections, electronic legal database banks (Westlaw/Lexis), Internet teaching facilities, multi-media laboratory and study rooms. In addition to academic-oriented courses, the faculty also offers several practical courses available to LLM students such as patent licensing, technology transfer training and e-learning for Legal Research, etc. We also provide a legal practical training program, Legal Clinic & Service Center, for LLM students. In the program, students are assigned to assist college students and other faculty members to settle legal matters and also provide legal information to the community.

Goal

There are two distinctive features of the LLM faculty: one is the comprehensive approach to the study of law; the other is the commitment to offering an international perspective on law.

I. The comprehensive approach has been developed at Feng Chia University for over forty years. Our aim is to avoid separating law from other aspects of society. One of our aims is to cultivate LLM students who are not only immersed in financial and economic law training, but also adhere to the doctrine of legal ethics. In addition to studying legal judgments and statutes, students could also expand their insight to examine the impact of financial, economic, social and political changes on law and consider how law affects life beyond the court and law offices.

II. The LLM faculty is positioned as a professional law school for post-graduate students and aims to encourage faculty members and students to develop comparative and international perspectives on law. This approach influences courses offered in the program. The international nature of the faculty is reflected in the course design and our anticipated outcome is to cultivate students who are capable of global competition as well as becoming expert in both traditional and emerging law, such as e-commerce and WTO-related law. On this basis, faculty members are varied in their legal backgrounds and have extensive international research experiences.
